1 – 2 pm (ET)
Please join the Coordinating Center for PCORnet® for a Best Practices Sharing Session on Thursday, November 19th, 1-2pm ET. Our guest speakers for this webinar are:
- Ellicott Matthay, Ph.D., Epidemiologist and Assistant Professor, Department of Population Health, New York University Grossman School of Medicine
- Magdalena Cerdaì, Dr.P.H., Susan Dwight Bliss Professor of Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Yale School of Public Health
- Cameron Mckay, Ph.D., Senior Data Analyst, New York University Langone Health
They will present their PCORnet® Study called “The Big Events study: examining the short- and long-term effects of disasters on the overdose crisis.” In this session, presenters will use the study as a case example to discuss operational considerations including privacy-preserving patient linkage and tokenization, cross-site data quality review, and development of a reproducible opioid overdose outcome phenotype.
The Big Events study is a large, longitudinal PCORnet® study examining how disasters and other major societal disruptions — including extreme heat, hurricanes, wildfires, and epidemics — affect fatal and nonfatal opioid overdose risk. The study links individual-level EHR data for approximately 1.5 million adults across 19 sites with time-varying county-level measures of disaster exposure, public response and recovery efforts, and community conditions. In this session, we will use the study as a case example to discuss operational considerations including privacy-preserving patient linkage and tokenization, cross-site data quality review, and development of a reproducible opioid overdose outcome phenotype.
