Upcoming Funding Opportunities and Events

Apply: PCORI Will Fund up to $10M for Broad Pragmatic Studies in Early 2024

In early 2024, PCORI will release a Category 3 Broad Pragmatic Studies (BPS) funding announcement for researchers interested in using PCORnet® for patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). This BPS Category 3 funding opportunity supports PCORnet® Studies with direct costs up to $12 million.* PCORnet® Studies use the Network to conduct observational studies and/or pragmatic trials that are national in scale.

This PCORI Funding Announcement (PFA) opens January 9. Letters of Intent (LOI), a requirement for PCORI funding, are due February 6. Take these three steps to prepare:

  1. Register for the January 24 PCORI Applicant Town Hall to learn more about this PFA and how to submit a responsive LOI and application.
  2. Check out this webinar for an overview of PCORnet and the specific requirements for the Category 3: PCORnet®Studies option in the BPS PFA.
  3. Contact the PCORnet® Front Door. All applicants submitting to the BPS Category 3 PFA are required to contact the PCORnet® Front Door prior to submitting their LOI. PCORnet representatives will answer questions and help applicants complete the queries necessary for their applications. The PCORnet® Front Door also offers study feasibility review, including assistance with budgeting, research proposals, information on potential study sites for research participation, data sources, and more.

*Funding for innovations to support CER, such as novel approaches to returning results to participants and the use of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) technologies to engage, may be requested in the LOI phase.

Accelerate Your Research! New Tools Powered by PCORnet Can Speed Your Study Start-up

Reduce start-up time with four new tools powered by PCORnet to make study planning, design, contracting, and execution more efficient.

      • Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) speeds prep-to-research queries.
      • Clinical Research Collaboration Agreement speeds the contracting process for PCORI-funded studies.
      • SMART IRB and IREx List supports fast and easy search of crucial details about PCORnet-participating sites.
      • Data Study Flow Resources facilitates fast and consistent IRB applications in your PCORnet-leveraged study.

These four tools were designed to help researchers address some of the most time-consuming, costly, and difficult aspects of study start-up. Using these tools and established PCORnet partnerships can make your next national-scale study more efficient.

Access Insights: Public Query Data Reports Now Available for Telehealth and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research

Two new query data reports powered by PCORnet resources can help Network researchers conduct robust patient-centered CER. These query reports, developed and processed through the PCORnet® Front Door, demonstrate the power of PCORnet to help researchers glean more diverse, real-world insights for their studies.

      • Telehealth Query Report: A new telehealth query report explores the use of telehealth services among patients at sites
participating in PCORnet. Researchers can leverage this report to identify disparities in telehealth delivery, trends both pre- and post-COVID-19, and insights into how underserved populations used telehealth services to manage chronic conditions throughout the pandemic.
      • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Query Report: A new IDD query report is also available to help researchers draw insights on patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities who had a healthcare encounter at a site participating in PCORnet. This query is the largest known, national-scale descriptive analysis of IDD populations using electronic health record (EHR) data to date.

Both the telehealth and IDD query reports are accessible now to researchers conducting patient-centered CER. Check them out today!

Learn: The Decade-long Impact of PCORnet Lauded at PCORI Annual Meeting
