About American BRCA
The ABOUT Network grew out of the work of the leading national nonprofit advocacy organization for individuals and families impacted by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) — Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered, Inc. (FORCE) — and a multiyear collaboration between FORCE and hereditary cancer researchers at the Morsani College of Medicine, USF Health. For a brief video overview, click here.
The ABOUT Network was founded because historically there has been very limited involvement of patients in research, aside from serving as participants, and many individuals have unanswered questions that need to be answered to enable them, and future generations, to make the best informed decisions about their health. Therefore, it is ABOUT’s goal to engage the patient community in the prioritization, development, execution, and dissemination of results of research studies to address these informational gaps that are most important to them.
ABOUT Network is co-leading development of PCORnet’s Cancer Collaborative Research Group (Cancer CRG) to facilitate cancer research with multiple stakeholders and networks within and outside PCORnet, as part of PCORnet’s commitment to the Cancer Moonshot Initiative.
