PCORnet Best Practice Sharing Session – Using Narratives to Promote Engagement: The MyPaTH Story Project
July 11, 2017 @ 10:00 am EST - 11:00 am EST
This session will describe how the PaTH network has developed an archive of patient stories to support the development of people-centered research questions in PCORnet and facilitate patient engagement in patient-centered outcomes research. Discussion will include how patient input shaped the project, the logistics of story collection, a description of the data that accompanies each story, and ways in which the data can be used by PCORnet researchers. We will describe ongoing collaborations that facilitate introductions between story tellers and PPRNs that may be of interest to them (based on story content). Preliminary data focusing on participant satisfaction and the range of story topics addressed will be reviewed. The session will conclude with ideas for how other networks can leverage MyPaTH as a novel people-centered engagement resource and lessons learned from the project to date.
Speaker: Kathleen McTigue is a general internist and an Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Clinical/Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the lead Principal Investigator of the PaTH Clinical Data Research Network and has a track record of scientific discovery focusing on how body weight influences health, evidence-based weight management, and patient-centered care. Dr. McTigue has led the development of the MyPaTH Story Project as an engagement innovation that facilitates the development and implementation of people-centered research that may improve the delivery of health care and patients’ health.
